We really have a bad track record of high profile signings not panning out.

Selanne, Kariya, Smyth, were never the players they were suppose to be joining this team and playing with Sakic.

I hope we stay away from that trend, going forward. Building within instead of signing big ticket forwards.

Based in name alone it'd be a toss up between Kariya and Selanne, but I was always a fan of Brunette and Laperriere for the Avs based on what they brought.

Not really a team known for bringing in talent that works out via free agency...... There are some really big busts on our list.

I see more than a few Laperrierre jerseys at the Pepsi Center. Good call. Hopefully Iggy can in the next couple years put the question to rest

Personally I dont think this should be a reason to keep away from him in UFA, but I can see him being Black balled by a few teams bc of this. NHL is always funny that way

McDavid, Eichel, Hanifan, and Strome are easily gone by then.

Marner and Crouse most likely as well.......

Should be down to these guys depending on who gets slotted at #'s 6-9:

Rantanen, Barzal, Provorov, Zacha, Werenski

Based on talent and picking the best player available I'd pick in this order:

1.) McDavid
2.) Eichel
3.) Hanifan
4.) Strome
5.) Marner
6.) Crouse
7.) Rantanen
8.) Provorov
9.) Zacha
10.) Werenski - Avs pick

Honestly, can't go wrong in this draft at the #10 pick with all the depth. I'm in favor of moving down the draft once or twice and adding some prospect depth or a young player or two that can bring something to the table headed into next year.

Corey Pronman seems to like Provorov to Colorado. I tend to trust his judgement on prospects.

I could see Crouse falling in the draft down near the 10 spot. And we are the kind of team that would be happy take him.

I would be one happy guy to land Provorov (can we start calling him Provo Cop?)
He has the tools to be in the Top 4 next year, he has NHL size already.

I love Bigras and Geertsen as our Top D prospects, but I see more safe second pairing potential out of them, solid number 3s. Maybe Bigras develops further and can become a solid number 2 but we really dont have that stud D prospect that has Top pairing written all over him.

Just think in 2-3 seasons away you could have a homegrown D Core with the potential to plug in a solid Dman on every pairing...such as

Bigras Barrie
Geertsen/Siemens Elliott

Now thats how you start to build real playoff contending teams. You dont overspend picking up spare part Dmen in UFA.

Bigras and Siemens are two big variables for this team...if they develop, alot of the problems solve themselves. If not, well the cupboard is pretty bare back there.
